Nerdy Solar Math
WATTS VOLTS AMPS
- Terms to know when dealing with Solar are:
- Volts (E) – the difference in electric potential between two points.
- Amps (I) – the flow of an electric charge through a cable.
- Watts (P) – a combination of Voltage and Current as a measurement of Power.
- Solar System capacity is typically specified in Watts.
- Battery capacity is typically specified in Amps.
- Watts = Amps * Volts
- Easy way for me to remember is: P = I * E
- Where P = Power in Watts, I is Amps, and E is Volts.
- Useful Variations include I = P / E and E = P / I
- One Watt Hour (Wh) is one Watt of continuous Power for one Hour.
